The Forbidden City, located in the heart of Beijing, was the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. With 980 surviving buildings and over 8,700 rooms, it is the largest ancient palace complex in the world.

Now the Palace Museum, it houses an extensive collection of Chinese art and artifacts spanning thousands of years.

Transportation

Metro: Line 1 to Tiananmen East or Tiananmen West station. Bus: Routes 1, 2, 52, 82, 120 to Tiananmen stop.

Tickets

¥60 (Apr-Oct) / ¥40 (Nov-Mar). Free for children under 18 and seniors over 60. Book online in advance.

Travel Tips

Book tickets online at least 7 days in advance. Enter from the south (Meridian Gate) and exit from the north (Gate of Divine Might). Allow 3-4 hours.
