Introduction to self-portraits: Most of Frida's works describe her own stories, and her most painted subjects are her self-portraits. In these works, Kahlo often painted herself dressed in traditional Mexican clothing, sometimes indifferent and sometimes thoughtful, surrounded by her pets and the many lush vegetables of her homeland.
