Best Time to Visit China: A Month-by-Month Guide
China is a vast country with diverse climates. The best time to visit depends on where you're going and what you want to do.
Spring (March-May)
Ideal for most destinations. Mild temperatures and blooming flowers. March is cherry blossom season in Wuhan and Nanjing. April is perfect for Beijing and Xi'an. May is great for Guilin and Yangshuo.
Summer (June-August)
Hot and humid in most cities. June is rainy season in the south. July and August are peak tourist season — book ahead. The mountains like Huangshan and Emeishan are cooler. Great time for Inner Mongolia and Tibet.
Autumn (September-November)
The best season overall. September is pleasant everywhere. October has the National Day holiday (avoid major attractions). November offers stunning fall colors in Beijing, Nanjing, and Jiuzhaigou.
Winter (December-February)
Cold in the north but fewer crowds. See the Great Wall in snow. Harbin Ice Festival runs January-February. Southern cities like Guangzhou and Sanya are warm escapes. Chinese New Year (late Jan/early Feb) is a major travel period.
