Travel Guide to the Former Site of Duan Qirui Government in Beijing

Dongcheng Area
Nestled in the heart of Beijing, the former site of Duan Qirui’s government began life as the Jiubeizi Mansion, the elegant residence of Yinzhen, the ninth son of Emperor Kangxi. Over the centuries it passed through the hands of Qing nobility, becoming Prince He’s Mansion and later the home of Prince Hongzhoufenghe, the fifth son of Emperor Yongzheng. With the founding of the Republic of China, the complex was repurposed as the Navy Department of the Beiyang Government. After the Zhili‑Fengtian War concluded in 1924, it took on its most famous role as the seat of Duan Qirui’s administration. Today, visitors can trace these layers of history while exploring the preserved courtyards and halls.
