Shenyang Catholic Church Travel Guide
Shenhe District
Perched in the heart of Shenyang, the majestic Shenyang Catholic Church stands as a testament to the city's rich history and cultural exchange with Europe. Originally built in 1878 by French missionary Tufang John, the church was rebuilt in 1912 after being ravaged by the Boxers in 1900, using funds from the Boxer Indemnity. Its striking Gothic architecture, adorned with two square cone-shaped spires and a "cross" frame, is a breathtaking blend of European Renaissance style and traditional Chinese craftsmanship. With its imposing 40-meter-high structure and expansive 1,100 square-meter construction area, this magnificent church is one of the largest and most impressive in the country.
